HoMedics Sound SPA Premier Sound Machine Clock Radio with Atomic & Indoor/Outdoor Temperature

My husband and I have had this clock for three years now. We purchased it at Bed Bath and Beyond (I had never read a review on it). The sound features are great for white noise, and the ‘footprint’ of the clock is small (great for those bed stands that have limited space). We really liked the dual-alarm, as there are days when one of us has to get up earlier than the other.
Our complaint with this contraption is that the Atomic clock feature WILL make the time inaccurate eventually. By hours, or fractions of hours. The first few times this happened, we thought it was user-error. We have turned the Atomic clock OFF altogether to circumvent the alarm activating at an hour before, or after, our wake time. However, it TURNS ITSELF BACK ON and has wrecked our night’s sleep (or made us late) by resetting at an incorrect time. We have been unsuccessful in deactivating the Atomic feature permanently. A friend of ours has a similar HoMedics alarm clock and has the same trouble; inaccurate time at random intervals. Almost always occurring overnight.
My husband and I are both tech savvy, and keep every manual for every device we own until it croaks. We have followed the directions on setting and keeping time, the Atomic feature, and the multiple alarm settings. This clock has a mind of its own. If neither of us had jobs that required us to be at work at a specific time, then this would do just fine as a sound machine. But, that is not the case.
9/21/09 Update:
We have not replaced this clock yet; we have been unable to find the right replacement. While we still enjoy the sound machine feature, the clock has changed the time (again, either forward or backward – it seems to have a mind of its own) at least three times since I last wrote this review. This is not user error, this is a malfunction of the clock. I use my iPhone alarm as a backup now.

The atomic feature on this clock is very frustrating. And, no, it is not because of the time zone. The clock will be off by weird amounts. 43 minutes, 22 minutes, etc….I have tried to turn off the atomic feature, but to no avail.
Right now I am searching for a new alarm clock because I have had it with this one. I would rather reset the clock if I lose power rather than have sporadic time problems.
Too bad, because I really like the nature sounds. No noticeable loops.

A terrible product with a high price. The illuminate setting casts a way too bright glare from the LCD screen, great for a night light if your afraid of the dark. During the first day in use the nature sounds would suddenly turn on by itself and then the time would change to an incorrect time. I believe the Atomic Time feature caused this but after I switched this feature off it would turn back on again. I will be returning this garbage after only two days.

Love the fact that it’s a sound machine and clock radio in the same piece. The clock is atomic so it resets itself automatically (a real plus in areas where power goes out regularly).

I already have one of these clocks myself and love it so much that I purchased this one as a gift. It’s a great clock with a lot of fun options, it is easy to set and works great. One of my favorite features is that it is atomic – the time is always accurate and I don’t need to worry about backup batteries. Another bonus to this clock is that it gets better radio reception that my old clock radio.
The only downside to this purchase is that the clock was so poorly packaged I had to open it and test it before giving it as a gift. The box was badly damaged and the packing inside was too skimpy to protect the clock from banging around inside the box. Fortunately, the clock works and hopefully won’t suffer any long term consequences.
